Clint and Dawn

I am just now recovering from my wedding weekend extravaganza, we had 2 last weekend. On Saturday Chris and I attended the wedding of Clint and Dawn. It was our first local wedding and they were so lucky to have such great weather. My favorite thing about their wedding was the brides purple bouquet and the black tea they gave as a favor. I think Chris loved the candy bar and the paper dots:) Congratulations Clint and Dawn, we wish you the very best in your future together.

Pizza Party

My sister had a bunch of her friends over for a pizza party tonight, she invited me as well and I thought it was a great idea.  We all helped making multiple varieties of pizza,  Most of the supplies came from my favorite grocery store, Trader Joe's.   Not only does TJ's have cool stuff but I think the prices are very reasonable.

My creation had half mushrooms, onions, prosciutto and cheese and half margarita.

Prosciutto, yummmm

I love the fancy water and lemonades that they carry.

99 cent per bag!!!!!!

Country Escape

This past weekend Chris and I along with our friends Aimee and Adam traveled west to go explore the beautiful Virginia country side. We had a wonderful time and none of it would have happened with out the awesome planning that Aimee did. She was inspired by an article she read in her Travel + Leisure magazine that highlighted the Paladio restaurant at the Barboursville winery, unfortunately we were unable to get reservations but that didn't stop us from enjoying their wine.

A tasting only cost $4 and you get to keep the glass

After tasting the whites we bought a bottle and headed outside for a picnic, it was SOOOO HOT! Look at Adams face, after our picnic we went back inside to enjoy the AC and finish tasting the reds.We stayed at The Inn at Meander Plantation

How cute is this cottage, Chris and I stayed on the right side and A & A stayed on the left.

We also enjoyed a wonderful dinner at the Inn, everything was very fresh and tasty. Unfortunately I had to skip the beginning cocktail hour and salad course because I was getting over a migraine, but the 4 courses I did eat were wonderful. Here is a great photo of the dinning room.

This barn was just outside our cottage, I took the photo just before breakfast.

On Sunday we made a visit to Monticello, to our surprise A & A (from NY) had never heard of it. I would love a garden like this, I feel like it looks like something Martha would grow.

We ended our trip in downtown Charlottesville in the historic mall area. After lunch we made sure to visit Splendora's for a painters palate of gelato. Aimee was in heaven:)

A day in SoHo

I know it's been a few weeks since Chris and I went to New York but I really wanted to post about our day in SoHo with my friend Ranchel, it was a perfect combination between feeling like we really lived there and doing the touristy shopping.

We started our morning out at the Grey Dog Cafe, it was a cute casual place that had a great down home feeling. I ordered the french toast and Chris of course tried their fish taco, which we have now voted the second best we have ever had (PrincessPub in San Diego still wins first)
We then ventured down the street to find the famous Magnolia Bakery and to do a little window shopping, Ovando, a hip cool floral shop immediately caught my eye. I wish you could see the whole shop better but the lady was giving me the evil eye when I started taking photos.

When we arrived at Magnolia Bakery we were greeted by a line wrapped around the corner, instead of waiting we took a quick look at the ladies hand making them and then moved on.

Thinking we would save time we hopped in a cab to get to Room and Board, the driver had no idea where he was going, Ranchel almost asked him to pull over so we could get out. Here is a great photo to capture the moment. You know it's bad when a real New Yorker freaks out... look at her face!!!!
We finally safely arrived at Room and Board and to calm Chris down he immediately grabbed a coffee. I think he stayed in that chair most of the time while Ranchel and I shopped.

One of my favorite things R&B does are these wall collages. I wish I could afford to do this, Chris and Ranchel did the math they said one wall was around $800 just for the frames.

Remember my post on Sabon, I finally got to go there!!! It was amazing!

We finished up our shopping at CB2, another store that DC does not have yet. As you can see Chris and I were exhausted, but were very happy we got to spend a great day with Ranchel and the great city of New York.

TripIt

I thought I would share with everyone my new Internet obsession, the website TripIt. Chris introduced this site to me awhile back and I thought it was a bit silly. I now don't think I can go on a trip without it. I've been imputing all our trips since April and it now shows that I've traveled a total of 5,695 miles, 17 days and to 13 cities, How cool is that!!!!

Happy 4th of July

I hope everyone has a happy and safe 4th of July.  Here are some treats I made today for our party. I had to redeem myself from my St. Patrick's day attempt at making cookies.
I brought these to the party as well for everyone to take home.
This is how Martha's Trifle turned out. Chris made this and did an amazing job, everyone at the party LOVED IT!

Red, White and Blue

This year for the 4th we will be attending a small party in Arlington. I've offered to bring something but I just don't know what. I really think these parfaits from Martha are adorable but not practical to bring to a party.

This one looks good too, not as cute and tailored looking but I'm sure it still taste good, I also have a beautiful trifle bowl that I have never used. I'll let you all know what I end up bringing.

I also love the idea of bringing a flower arrangement for the host. This one might be a bit large but I love the red on red, it's not over the top 4th of July with tacky red, white and blue flowers.
