Compression

No fun Labor day pics here, my Labor Day consisted of me "compressing" into my brain the principals of Structures from sun up to sun down.  The test was a monster and if I have to retake it again I will seriously cry, I'll know in 6 weeks.   I hope the rest of you were out enjoying the last few days of summer.

Happy Earth Day

Loving this building, especially for Earth Day today. Try and be good today and remember to recycle, reuse and reduce.

A Hidden Gem

I never really got around to sharing much about Portland and so for a Friday treat I thought I would share my trip to the Portland Classical Chinese Garden.  Once a parking lot is now an oasis for the city.
As a little girl we had a huge rhododendron bush on the side of our house, my mother would let me pick whole bunches and I would pretend it was my wedding bouquet.

Loved this floor! One day in my garden the ground will have beautiful patterns just like this.

Loved these openings in the wall, each opening was different but I loved this one because it reminded me of the dahlia flower, my favorite.

Look Up

Sometimes we are so focused on what's ahead we forget to look at what's right in front of us or for this matter, what's above us.  On a hunt for the best fish taco at Toloache I also discovered a beautiful ceiling.  My first year architecture professor told me something that I have never forgotten, and that is, you can judge a firm 100% by the type of ceiling they have.  So don't be surprised if you catch me taking a sneak peak of what's above.

Oh and the fish tacos were one of the best we've had, we just wish they served 3 instead of 2.  Chris rates these a 4 1/2 out of 5

Happy Friday

The one thing I wanted to do in New York was see the waterfall exhibit so Chris arranged we take a boat tour that passed by them.  The entire weekend we had amazing weather which made the boat tour even better.  It was great seeing NYC from the water, it's a whole different perspective.
I really wanted to take our Christmas card photo infront of the falls but then half way there I realized what shirt Chris was wearing, oh well, I still love him and all his geek shirts, we will have to pick a different photo for the card.

Contrast

Unfortunately I can not tell you where this photo was taken because I got in trouble for taking it.  I love the contrast between the outside and inside world.  The outside seems so harsh and cold and inside is warm and glamorous.   Hint... this store is on 5th Ave.

Happy Thoughts

Today is going to be a rough day at work, I can already tell. I took this photo a couple of weeks ago in Georgetown. It makes me happy.

Yellow is the color for Fall

I’m "fall"ing in love with the color yellow. Every time I turn around there it is, bright, bold and in my face. Today I saw this amazing candy table from Amy Atlas on HWTM. Check out the rest of her stuff, truly amazing, I NEED an excuse to throw a party…. Halloween maybe?

While shopping at the new J.Crew in Reston on Monday night I saw this awesome jacket. Love the purse too, but I didnt' see it at the store.

A few photos in my favorites folder on decor pad. There's that yellow again.

From my BOSS

Nice job ladies, Edge Designs, an all women run company designed this men's room in New York. I think it's hilarious that my boss sent it to the entire office.

Hello Cupcake!!!!

OMG, I'm in love with the new Dupont Hello Cupcake.

Last Friday Chris and I had the perfect date night, we first went to the Brickskeller for beer and overheard some people talking about the new cupcake place, I turned to Chris and said we HAD to go. So after finishing our beers we put our name in at Pizza Paradiso and then headed over to grab some cupcakes, and good thing we did because by 7 30 they only had 2 flavors left. After chowing down on our FAVORITE pizza we dug into our cupcakes, yummmmmm.

Sigh.... Beer, Pizza and cupcakes... it couldn't have been more perfect.

The owner can thank her very talented Architect husband Bill Bonstra for the very hip design. This sketch of the shop was featured in Architecture DC, I'm loving the pink chandelier.

J.Crew goes to the Kaufmann House

I love being an architect, but the second you mention to someone that your profession is architecture this is what they say: "Do you love Frank Llyod Wright?"  Yes, I think Wright was a brilliant architect but there were also many other amazing modern architects during his time. Richard Neutra (1892-1970)  was one of those Architects, he moved to the U.S. from Vienna in 1923 and for a very short time worked for F.L. Wright.  He then went on to build houses in the hills of Southern California.  One of his most famous houses was the Kaufmann House in Palm Springs which was designed for Edgar J. Kaufmann, the same man who commissioned Frank Lloyd Wright to build Fallingwater. It was a masterpiece of  glass, steel and stone.  What inspired me to post about this house was the j.crew site.  I went to go check out some of their new spring stuff and noticed that they had done their spring photo shoot at the house, I can't wait to get my catalogue!

This is the house in it's current condition, in 1992 the now current owners Brent and Beth Harris bought the house for 1.5 million and restored it to it's original glory.  They are now getting a divorce and the house is up for auction, the pre-sale estimates are between $15-25 million.

These pictures are from 1970, the owner of the home is pictured in all yellow.
